“I've never been to China, I just talk to people there. live.com is msn though. I imagine it's only a matter of time before authorities there block digg. I can't imagine them actually allowing free thought and opinion voting of news. and really, a sure fire way to get it blocked, would be to post a single article about the dalai lama or tibetan independence, then it'd be goodbye digg.

Freedom can exist without anarchy and it can exist without the government taxing the labor of its citizens. This has been true historically. By implying that we must choose between anarchy and income taxes you are committing an obvious logical fallacy. I'm kind of embarrassed for you..
Oh a PUMA tracksuit... well. It's not like it was no-name or something. Outrage ensues.!

>>"a victimless crime">Try telling that to the thousands of girls who are forced into prostitution every year. And these things routinely happen where prostitution is LEGAL?There are those who choose legal prostitution (or do it as last resort with no other employment choices). Forcing them underground is a nice tidy way of "solving" an issue which obviously makes _you_ uncomfortable, but you reach this bliss at _their_ expense and safety.Anywhere where prostitution is illegal, prostitutes have NO rights. If they get robbed, raped, or beaten, the police just shrug "they shouldn't have been a prostitute". In places where it is legal, they're afforded legal and medical attention. You must know this. And FYI, people are forced, beaten, and held hostage for many other lines of work, and you do _not_ blame the line of work, do you? Your statement is equally true of precious stone mining (child slaves), textile production (women chained to their stations), and even brick-making (children in China kidnapped as forced labor). In pure form, legal prostitution is as victim-less as any other line of work. Some have ***** jobs, worse "customers", and lousier pay.Sorry to get a little worked up, but suppressing prostitution makes as much sense to me as banning needle-exchange, or banning gambling. The more "daylight" you can shine on these things, the more you can deter abuses. |

tokens, to make sure the poor put up with the various scams.Just compare the budget for 'foodstamps' which go directly to poor people... to the budget of the military or the amount spent on public sector unions (healthcare, education...)Starving people might revolt against the mafia.

Yeah. We''ll all be using that any day now.Even if we could make this affordable right now, it would still barely get used.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be done necessarily, I'm saying that when something like that is at stake, there needs to be inquiry and study into the effects of what would happen both in the short term and the long term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_cycle_assessment |
