It's great that Russia is pursuing these feats in nuclear engineering. But honestly they are still kind of behind NASA when it comes deep space exploration. New Horizons is almost half way to Pluto. =D Expected to reach Pluto in 2015.

A couple reasons:Mostly to demonstrate that these things really aren't as dangerous as they look, and that many people's extreme fears of them is rather irrational.Somewhat because it's kinda exciting (somewhat like riding a roller coaster or bungee jumping or motorcycle riding or hang gliding or base jumping; with a similar degree of dangerousness).
